Jobs and Careers follows hiring, pay and unemployment across the four counties, from downtown Tampa offices to job sites in Pasco and Hernando. The desk works from Bureau of Labor Statistics counts of jobs and wages and Census Bureau surveys of earnings and commutes, comparing the region with Florida and the U.S.
Hillsborough County lost 8,653 private jobs and Pinellas County 3,702 from March 2025 to March 2026, leaving Pasco County as the region's lone gainer.
Even so, the county's rate rose 0.6 percentage points from a year earlier, as unemployment climbed across the region and Hernando County reached 5.6%.
