Ms. Smith faces two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, according to information released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The investigation was initiated after two dogs were rescued from an apartment in Hillsborough County, found to be in a state of severe neglect. Deputies described the animals as severely malnourished and "extremely" underweight.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office led the two-week inquiry that resulted in Smith's arrest. The Tampa Free Press reported the arrest took place on July 27.
